“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”
— Benjamin Franklin
At The Law Offices of Kennedy & Jackson, our primary goal is to help our clients use legal instruments such as wills and trusts to protect both financial assets and their families.
Our law firm limits its practice exclusively to the areas of law involved in estate planning, asset protection, and probate and estate administration. By maintaining a tightly focused practice, we are able to offer our clients superior and sophisticated legal and financial advice to help protect their families for generations to come.
Everyone needs an estate plan. The relative complexity of the estate plan will vary: for some individuals, a simple estate plan will suffice; on the other end of the spectrum are high net worth individuals and families, whose estate plan should include a wide variety of legal instruments, utilized to effectively minimize the estate’s exposure to estate taxes.
The primary responsibility of our attorneys is to obtain a complete picture of our clients’ current financial and family status, along with our clients’ wishes for both their family and their financial assets. Once that picture is complete, we structure an estate plan that provides ironclad protection for family members and financial assets, using all the relevant tools at our disposal, including:
Our attorneys have been developing successful asset protection strategies for decades — both within and outside of the estate planning process. We have a deep familiarity with the advantages and disadvantages of all common — and many uncommon — asset protection devices, including irrevocable trusts, testamentary trusts, IRA inheritance trusts, family limited partnerships, limited liability companies and asset segregation.
Business succession planning is a subset of our estate planning services. Some of our clients need to plan for the future of a business after their death; other clients wish to establish a private foundation as part of their larger estate planning strategies. We provide experienced guidance for clients in either situation — from helping create new business organizations, to drafting buy-sell agreements.
After a death occurs in the family, the named executor will seek an attorney to guide the estate through probate. The Law Offices of Kennedy & Jackson offers effective and cost-efficient probate administration services. Our law firm also represents interested parties in intestacy (no will) cases.
When a person dies without a will in Texas, this is referred to as dying intestate. In cases like this, the state of Texas has laws that will determine who receives the deceased person’s assets. All potential heirs must go through an heirship determination process, to prove their relationship to the deceased. A properly prepared estate plan can eliminate much of the cost and time associated with intestate succession.
