Executors and Administrators

Have you been chosen to be an executor or administrator of an estate? Whether you volunteered or you were nominated or appointed, you may not know what is involved or even where to start.

The experienced attorneys of The Law Offices of Kennedy & Jackson provide patient assistance and experienced legal counsel for probate and estate administration. We advise executors, administrators and trustees in Greater Houston, Harris County and beyond. We often advise executors living in other states who are put in charge of the Texas estate of their parent or family member.

ASSISTING ESTATE EXECUTORS AND ADMINISTRATORSĀ A PROBATE LAW FIRM IN HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS

An executor is a person named in the will to settle the estate of a family member or friend. Even if the decedent asked your permission to list you as executor, you may not have had a detailed discussion about his or her wishes.

An administrator is a person chosen or confirmed by the court (a) if there was no will, (b) if the will did not name an executor, or (c) if the named executor is unwilling, unable or also deceased. Individuals can petition to be appointed, family members can nominate a person, or the judge can suggest an administrator.

(A trust administrator, or trustee, is a person assigned to manage trust assets, which are administered separately from the probate process.)
